Sad News

We are sorry to have to tell you that Chris Weller died unexpectedly at home on Monday 26th February. For many years she was a regular mid week walker and leader. In her prime she completed all the Nuttall tops of England and Wales and climbed many other mountains in the Lakes and N. Wales with a small group of like-minded Ramblers. On behalf of NMC we offer the family our sincere condolences. Funeral Wednesday 20th March. 1.30pm Helsby Methodist Church,  2.40pm Walton Lea Crematorium, Netherton Hall Frodsham from 3pm for the Wake. Donations to the Walton Centre charity in Liverpool. This is the charity that supports the Walton Neurological Centre.

Walk Leader's report from Marple Bridge - Tuesday 12th March [Leader Brian Holmes]
16 including one visitor assembled at Brabyns Brow and decided to don our waterproofs given the forecast. However, we were soon stopping as we walked alongside the river goyt to remove clothing as the sun came out. In fact we only had one light shower late afternoon. Shame on those that believed the forecast and stayed at home. A steady climb up a restricted byway we came across a stranded delivery van - don't trust Sat-nav. A detour for the leader to visit his old stone cottage on the remote hillside pushed the walk distance to 15 miles - well done those returning from relaxed holidays. Mellor cross and then the trig provided distant views of Manchester and Kinder. Lunch was taken sitting on a very convenient garden wall. From Rowarth we climbed up towards Cowan Edge and then dropped down along muddy tracks and boggy fields to Etherow Park with its lake and on into Brabyns Park. A group of tired walkers sought sustenance in the Midland Pub across the road.
